Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday invoked the so-called "Rule of Five" to demand the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein in a letter to the Department of Justice.

"Federal law requires government agencies to provide information if any five members of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee request it.

And we’re using it to force Trump and Bondi to release the Epstein files to us," Schumer announced via Social Media.

Section 2964 explicitly requires executive agencies to provide information to the Senate if any five members of the committee request it under that authority.

Democrats have, in recent weeks, attempted to capitalize on widespread disapproval of the Trump administration's handling of the Epstein case amid speculation about a possible Trump pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, especially, has drawn flak for her changing story with respect to the release of the documents, including her orchestration of a botched PR stunt involving the release of largely public information via social media influencers.
