Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday ordered the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) to conduct strikes in Gaza, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, after Israel accused Hamas of violating the US-brokered ceasefire.

Israel claimed Hamas violated the peace deal by not returning the bodies of some hostages and attacking Israeli forces, according to the New York Times. Hamas has denied involvement in the attack on Israeli forces and said it remained committed to the cease-fire.

The United States was notified of the attack on Gaza before it took place, the outlet reported.

The attack comes after the IDF accused United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon of shooting one of its drones down on Sunday that was part of an intelligence-gathering mission. It also comes after the peacekeepers accused IDF twice of dropping grenades near its observers.

The IDF said both times it had attempted to disperse Hezbollah activity, and did not intend to harm the observers.
