President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Pakistan for negotiations with Iran's foreign minister in an effort to reach an end to the war between the countries that began Feb. 28, the White House said Friday.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that the trip will take place Saturday, and these will be direct talks mediated by the Pakistanis. She also said the Trump administration is hopeful the talks will "move the ball" toward a final agreement.

"The president always wants to give diplomacy a chance," Leavitt said. "It's always his first option, and he is willing to do that here again."

Vance will be involved in the process, she said, but he will remain in the U.S.
