Lebanon's Cabinet on Friday welcomed its army's plan to disarm the terrorist organization Hezbollah, and the army will begin implementing the plan with limited capabilities.

Hezbollah previously declined to disarm itself in July until Israel withdrew its troops from southern Lebanon. Hezbollah is Iran's largest proxy group that has been operating in Lebanon and has assisted the terrorist organization Hamas in its war with Israel.

Lebanon's government did not give a timeline for when the plan would be carried out, but the army's leadership will submit a progress report to the country's government every month, CNN reported.

Details on the plan are also not clear, but a senior Lebanese official told the outlet that all of Hezbollah's weapons is expected to be under the state’s control by the end of December.

“This is a very, very pivotal moment,” the official said. “The aim is for the handover (of weapons) to be at the end of the year, or started at least by the end of the year.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month said he could approve a phased withdrawal if Hezbollah is disarmed.
