Trump officially changes artificial intelligence to Super Intelligence in new executive order

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday night that formally renamed "artificial intelligence" as "Super Intelligence," following an event with tech executives at the White House.  

Trump first teased the name change last week during a state visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He later teased the executive order making the change official at a White House event earlier Tuesday.

The renaming only officially affects the executive branch and White House officials have 60 days to come up with proposed legislative language to formally define "Super Intelligence" under federal law.

"The extraordinary technologies being pioneered by American innovators far exceed what was envisioned when the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ first came into use," Trump wrote in the executive order. 

“The terminology used by the Federal Government should reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the limitless opportunities they create for the American people," he continued. "Accordingly, the term 'Super Intelligence' more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies.”

The president also signed an executive order that seeks to eliminate invasive ticks and mosquitoes in Washington, D.C., through safe non-chemical, and technology-enabled methods. It also invested in pioneering approaches to eliminate these pests throughout the country.
