Trump says he will sign executive order officially renaming AI as 'Super Intelligence' on Tuesday

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that one of the executive orders he will sign this evening is an order renaming "artificial intelligence" as "Super Intelligence," following a White House meeting with top tech and AI executives. 

The president is expected to sign several executive orders at the White House on Tuesday evening, and comes after he held a meeting with top AI leaders at the White House that focused on creating a balance between innovation and regulation.

“It's not artificial. We all agree on that,” Trump told reporters after the gathering. “And we're going to be renaming it 'super intelligence', officially renaming it.”

The president said the renaming will take place at 5 p.m. Eastern. He first teased the renaming during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping last week. 

Trump also described Tuesday's meeting with top AI officials as "unbelievable" and said the AI leaders all signed a morally binding White House Accord on Superintelligence, which is a code of conduct.

“They love our country and they love the world and they came together and they did something," Trump said. "It's almost like a constitution in a way. It really is a form of protection ... When they signed that, it meant a lot.”

The president vowed to catch people who use artificial intelligence illegally, pointing to the Department of Justice, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies as safeguards, but said the AI companies need to "self-police" as a primary form of regulation.

“I believe they're going to be used for the good, and when they're not, we're going to be able to nab them,” Trump said.
