Border czar Homan says vetting process for ICE agent in fatal Maine shooting under review

Border czar Tom Homan said Sunday that the vetting of an immigration officer involved in the deadly shooting of an illegal immigrant in Maine is under internal review. 

Relatives of the man told the Associated Press that the officer had a history of serious mental health issues and violent behavior. 

Homan said in an interview with CNN that if the allegations against the officer are true, he shouldn't have been able to get through the agency's vetting process. 

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced earlier this month that U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement was halting most vehicle stops following the shooting in Maine, and another in Houston. Trump quickly reversed the policy, saying the stops were an important immigration enforcement tool.
