Byron Donalds announces running mate for gubernatorial campaign
Donalds is facing off against Democratic nominee David Jolly in what is expected to be a close contest, despite Florida's drift into solid Republican territory at the national level.
Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., on Tuesday announced that he had selected state Sen. Bryan Ávila, R, as his running mate.
Donalds won the Republican primary for Florida governor last week, beating out Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, R-Fla., former state Speaker of the House Paul Renner, and outsider candidate James Fishback.
The Trump-endorsed congressman called Ávila a "conservative fighter" who has "fought woke ideology, he’s fought higher taxes, he’s fought higher costs every single day," The Hill reported.
