55% of voters want the GOP-led CR to pass: Poll

A majority of registered voters support the passage of a GOP-led continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown before the Friday deadline, a recent poll has revealed.

Over the weekend, House Republicans unveiled a stopgap spending measure to fund the government at current levels, albeit with minor modifications to boost defense, marginally lower non-defense spending, and additional funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In total, 55% of registered voters expressed support for the measure in the latest Napolitan News Survey, including 20% that strongly favored its passage. A further 44% said they wanted their representative to vote for it, while just 28% said the opposite and 28% more were unsure.

Among Republicans, 79% supported the plan, compared to 9% who opposed it.

The cards may largely be in the Democrats' hands, however, as a plurality (41%) of respondents indicated they would blame President Donald Trump and the GOP for a shutdown. Twenty-nine percent said they would blame congressional Democrats while 21% pinned blame on both parties and 8% were unsure.

Conducted Mar. 10 among 1,000 registered voters, the survey had a margin of error of +/- 3.1%.
