Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie floated a Republican presidential bid in 2028, asserting that the current bench of potential GOP candidates was not up to the job.

Christie previously ran for president in 2016 and 2020 and has long feuded with Trump personally. In an interview with Politico, he suggested that top figures aligned with the president, especially Vice President JD Vance were not prepared to navigate away from the White House.

“The Trump era is over... and we need to look forward to new leadership in our party and our country," he told the outlet. “The vice president to me has no credibility. He’s been sitting in the White House now for the last two years — haven’t heard him say a negative word, you know, until this past Wednesday ..."

Support for a Christie bid appears extremely limited and the RealClearPolitics polling average currently does not even feature him as a potential candidate.

He did not win a single state in either 2016 or 2024.
