Texas measure will make Biblical stories required reading in K-12 curriculum

The Texas Board of Education is expected to vote Friday on a measure that will make Biblical children's stories and Bible versus mandatory reading in the state's K-12 curriculum. 

Among the titles on the required reading would be an illustrated adaptation of the David and Goliath story for elementary students and Bible passages about Adam and Eve from the Book of Genesis for students in junior high and high school, CNN reported. 

The proposal the majority-Republican board will consider would go into effect in 2030. 

Last year, Texas passed a law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in classrooms, a law that was held up in federal court.
