Federal judge allows Missouri Supreme Court to hold contempt hearing for election official

A federal judge will allow the Missouri Supreme Court to hold a contempt hearing against Secretary of State Denny Hoskins. 

The high court had ordered Hoskins not to use a 2025 redistricting map that favors Republicans in the midterm election, but U.S. District Judge Stephen Clark on Tuesday ordered Hoskins to use the map. 

Hoskins had been pushing to use the new map against the Missouri Supreme Court's order, and the court ordered him to appear for a contempt hearing Thursday for not following its orders, the Associated Press reported. 

State attorneys representing Hoskins asked Clark to stop the contempt hearing, but he declined to do so.
