President Donald Trump on Friday announced that deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller would replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff.

Calls for Wiles's ouster abounded in recent days, after Republicans were crushed in the House and Senate midterms. She had long been a focal point for criticism of the administration from conservative hawks, who blamed her for steering Trump away from some of his more hardline policies.

"I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026. Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!" he posted on Truth Social.

Miller has long been regarded as an immigration and deportations hawk, earning features and headlines for his uncompromising pursuit of the mass deportation agenda.

Whether his appointment signals a policy pivot remains to be seen.
