President Donald Trump backed Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters to keep his post as post-election leadership fights heat up.

Gruters succeeded Michael Whatley in the post, who left the role to mount an unsuccessful bid for the Senate in North Carolina. He was formerly the RNC treasurer.

"MAGA Warrior Joe Gruters, who has been with us from the very beginning, is running to continue as Chairman of the Republican National Committee," Trump posted on Truth Social. "As Chairman, Joe turned the RNC into an efficient, focused, and powerful machine that will continue to empower the America First Agenda for many years to come."

"Joe Gruters should return as Chairman of the RNC to continue to build our Party, and be a trusted partner as we MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and ensure Free and Fair Elections," he added. "Republicans everywhere should support him as he continues his mission at the RNC."

The RNC chairman has been a contentious post for years. Ronna McDaniel previously held the role for years, surviving a challenge from Mike Lindell and Harmeet Dhillon, before stepping down amid criticism of her job performance.

Whatley then took over, with Lara Trump as co-chair, and oversaw the successful 2024 campaigns. Gruters's tenure was marred by the midterms losses on Tuesday.
