Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Russian attacks continued after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an Easter ceasefire from Saturday night until midnight on Monday.

"If Russia is now suddenly ready to truly engage in a format of full and unconditional silence, Ukraine will act accordingly - mirroring Russia's actions," Zelenskyy also said.

Putin first announced the ceasefire on Saturday. The Russian defense ministry said Russian forces would abide by the ceasefire as long as it is "mutually respected" by Ukraine.

Zelenskyy called on Putin to commit to a long-term ceasefire in an effort to reach peace.

"Give peace a chance," he said, according to the BBC.

Zelenskyy said he has proposed extending the ceasefire beyond Monday.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation in Ukraine, also said Russians were still firing artillery after Putin's ceasefire announcement.

"There is NO truce: in all directions, the Russian Federation continues to fire, as before," he said.
