The Senate on Tuesday confirmed former Georgia GOP Sen. David Perdue as ambassador to China.

Purdue was confirmed 67-29 with some Democratic support, according to The Hill newspaper.

“Our approach to China should be nuanced, nonpartisan and strategic,” Perdue said during his confirmation hearing earlier this month.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch said that the nomination of Perdue was “certainly one of the most important appointments that will come across this floor.”

Perdue's nomination comes amid an ongoing trade war with China and President Donald Trump slapping a 145% tariff on goods from China.

Perdue served one term in the Senate and lost to current Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff four years ago.

He ran for governor of Georgia in 2022 and lost to current Gov. Brian Kemp in the Republican primary.
