American Airlines flight to Rome turns around due to security issue later found to be 'non-credible'

The Leonardo da Vinci International (FCO) and American Airlines did not elaborate on what had occurred that required the turn around.

An American Airlines flight heading to New Delhi, India from New York City carrying 199 passengers and 15 crew members had to turn around over the Caspian Sea on Sunday and land in Rome due to a security issue that was later determined to be "non-credible."

A spokesman for the Leonardo da Vinci International (FCO) Airport did not explain the security issue that caused the flight change, according to CBS News.

American Airlines also did not elaborate on what had occurred that required the turn around.

"The flight landed safely at FCO, and law enforcement inspected and cleared the aircraft to re-depart," the spokesperson said.
